Python Programming
WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
Programming is a necessary 21st Century skill which all our students should have the opportunity to at least try. Students are now entering an increasingly fast paced digital workforce which relies on having skilled programmers and people who understand the concepts of programming. In previous times there was a preconception that only the gifted and skilled could excel within the computer science area but now our students are starting to programme as young as 4 years old.
Learning computer programming will help improve critical thinking and problem solving skills, algorithmic thinking and ultimately benefit the meta-cognition process which has proven benefits related to self-monitoring and independent learning.
Python is a widely used high-level, general-purpose, interpreted, dynamic programming language and is a superb language for teaching programming, both at the introductory level and for those who are more advanced.
During this Python workshop for secondary students we will first explore the introductory world of computer programming. This will be done through the early explanation of pseudocode and then quickly moving onto visual programming. Once students reach a satisfactory understanding of computer programming then instructors will introduce the world of Python programming and its vast array of useful applications. Students will work on developing Python script which can be applied to areas and projects such as; web development, data analysis, game development, web scraping and lots lots more.
Workshops are fun, interactive and we often have industry guest speakers presenting to our groups on the final day. Python can be easy to pick up whether you’re a first time programmer or if you are already experienced with other programming languages.
