Stop Motion Animation
WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
Stop motion animation is also known as stop frame animation. This animation is captured one frame at time, with physical objects that are moved between frames. When you play back the sequence of images rapidly, it creates the illusion of movement. Stop motion animation has a long history in film and it was often used to show objects moving as if by magic.
Some of the most famous and recognisable stop motion animation movies include; Wallace & Gromit movies, The Nightmare Before Christmas and The Fantastic Mr. Fox.
This workshop truly creates an energetic atmosphere in our learning space. Students work together in groups to create the idea behind their stop motion movie and once this has been agreed upon the following steps are executed; storyboarding, gathering and creation of props, scene building, capturing, editing, finalising, presenting.
Not only is this a great team building workshop it also teaches very useful technical skills such as using the camera effectively, importance of file structure, how to edit sound and footage using desktop software.
The Friday afternoon presentations, when groups show us their final cuts are always the highlight of the week!
